**Important message for parents/carers – 6J will be going on their sailing trip on Friday 20th September. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the trip and spares just in case.
We have had a very enthusiastic, productive week in Year 6. So far, all the staff have been very impressed by the children’s behaviour and learning attitudes. The children managed very well with their first taster of some tricky SAT tests and I was impressed with their mature attitude towards their learning.
We have made a good start to many areas of the curriculum: maths, reading, ICT and grammar. The children have been exploring the opening chapter of Kensuke’s Kingdom and the wide range of vocabulary used. There have been many purposeful discussions around the meaning of these unfamiliar words and the children are getting to grasps with this. We used ‘Vocabulary Victor’ to help us develop this skill further. The children have impressed with their mathematical skills this week. We have focused on reading/writing numbers up to and beyond a million and ordering and comparing. The children have worked extremely hard and have completed all f the tasks set. We are very lucky to have a set of new chromebooks in school, specifically for the year five and six children. This is very exciting and we have tried them out this week for some research into our class author Michael Morpurgo.
This week children have been given their weekly maths task. This is due in on Wednesday 18th September. The children have also been issued with some spelling homework. This will be handed out bi-weekly and is due in on 25th September.
Extreme Learning has gone well this week and most of the children have had their planners signed every day. Planners can be signed for a range of learning activities: reading, Mathletics, Spelling Shed, TT Rocks and any other homework activities.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all Monday.
