A glimpse of Kensuke…
Friday 16th October | 1 comment
We have had a tiring but rewarding week in 6J this week. The children have taken some assessments, written and extended piece of descriptive writing, explored the Sikh’s key values and much, much more. They have all worked very hard and should be pleased with their achievements.
We had the first real glimpse into Kensuke’s life this week and I think the children’s perception of this character have really changed. He was initially portrayed as a little stern and sometimes rather rude! However, we now know that he is a caring and compassionate man who is taking care of young Michael after a rather terrifying ordeal with a jellyfish. The children use a small snippet from the text and used their retrieval skills to draw a picture of Kensuke. Below are some of their ideas.
Over the last six weeks, the children have been exploring the Sikh religion. We have focused on finding out about the Gurus and their lives, the story of Guru Nanak and took a look inside the Gurdwara. The children have asked very thoughtful questions throughout the sessions and we have received some expert answers from a number of children in the class who are part of this faith. I have been very impressed in the detail given in their answers and it has allowed the class to have an insight into this religion even further. Here is some of the work completed so far in this unit.
This afternoon, the children have taken home two important letters, parents evening times and Bikeability. We need the Bikeability letters back ASAP so that all of the equipment can be ordered ready to begin after half term. Please let me know if there are any questions regarding this.
